Aplysia Cerebral Ganglia

Dorsal view of the left and right cerebral ganglia of Aplysia and position of serotonergic modulatory neurons (MCC). All connective tissues were removed to reveal individual neurons located at the surface of the ganglia. These neurons are easily consistently recognizable and due to their large size individual neurons can be easily micro-dissected to separate the somata from the processes. The photograph represents natural yellow-orange coloration of Aplysia neurons (centrally positioned white colored neurons represent a group of neurosecretory cells). Scale: 400 µm.
